Discoverers

Welcome to our Discoverers Room where we provide a holistic approach to support your babies learning and development.
Age 0-2

Discoverers Room we provide homely environment with a holistic approach to support your babies learning and development. We incorporate the prime areas– Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional and Physical Development into your child’s day to support their learning and development. We make your babies learning journey as fun and as individual as we can by using the information that you have given about your baby and going off their interests. We enable the environment to support their needs so we can make their learning fun, messy and accessible so this then can provide next steps for their learning.

Promoting Personal Social and Emotional Development.

We have a family photo board where we encourage parents/carers to send photos in of themselves and other special people in their babies’ lives, we have found this helps with the settling in process. We also have a wow moments board where we ask parents to fill in a slip that is located in the foyer and hand it in to the room, We can then celebrate special moments and many first moments with yourself and the children in the room. We encourage the babies to develop their independence by having a basic daily routine to the room that is mirrored each day of mealtimes, nappy changes, sleep and home time this helps them develop confidence and trust with the staff and with themselves. We have also introduced a routine for story/song time and self-registration each day to support the children in creating them bonds with peers and staff within the room and become familiar with a structured routine to support transition to the next room.

We also provide a daily sheet to go home with parents so they can see what their baby has eaten, when they have slept and nappy changes, this has been a success for information sharing.

Our Communication and Language.

We have a language enriched environment for your babies to learn and develop in while they are with us in nursery, we promote singing using actions and communicate by speech and gestures to your babies. We have a quiet area for looking and reading books and singing action songs with the babies but have an environment where talking and singing is not just allocated to one area.

Supporting Physical Development.

We enable the babies to move freely around the room and outdoors, supporting them at whatever stage of development they are at. We plan in the moment and go off your child’s interests and have supported activities to develop their gross and fine motor skills using materials such as shaving foam, paint, crayons etc. We have an area which is designed for opened ended play using loose parts so the babies can investigate posting, slotting, building, rolling enhancing their development physically and mentally. We have climbing areas inside and outside and encourage movement in the continuous provision as well as supported activities.

We communicate as a team in Discoverers to make your babies experience at nursery the best it can possibly be for their learning development. We support your baby at whatever stage they are at and give them the best possible outcome for them to proceed to their next steps of development.

Explorers

Welcome to Explorers where we empower our children to believe they can be and achieve anything they put their minds too.
Age 2-3

In Explorers we empower our children to believe they can be and achieve anything they put their minds too. We foster a learning through play approach and focus very much on the children’s individual needs to support their development. We encourage children to use all of their senses to explore and make sense of the world around them. In Explorers we focus primarily on the prime areas of learning but also extend into the specific areas where appropriate.

Our enthusiastic staff model play throughout the day, always ensure that we get down to the children’s level. We provide a language rich environment, extending our children’s knowledge and vocabulary along the way. Adding in new words to their play such as “baa, sheep baa” or “car, red car, big red car”. Reading stories and singing songs are some of our favourite activities to participate in, making the learning more fun and engaging whilst promoting our skills. We have different logos, pictures, words for example around the room to spark imagination, conversation and to encourage the children to talk about their life outside of nursery.

We love to get messy here; through lots of painting, water play, outdoor play, sensory play and by generally being 2 year old's. What better way to show how much fun we have been having whilst learning if we can’t get messy? Engaging in a variety of experience, we ensure our children develop holistically in the way which suits them best.

We incorporate conversations, British values, turn taking and physical play into each day, and no day is ever the same! We provide a highly stimulating space with lots of fun, laughter and love; building strong friendships with our peers. Children’s achievements are celebrated on tapestry and on our ‘Wow’ board.

We love to receive posts on tapestry off our parents, showing us what the children have been getting up to outside of nursery and what they have achieved!

We converse with other parents and other professionals to celebrate each child’s milestones throughout their time with us. We communicate with parents daily to ensure children’s needs are met and are always up to date with their current interests - enabling us to provide specific activities and experiences for all to enjoy.

Explorers support our children to be the best they can possibly be and become lovers of learning!

Preschool

Welcome to our Preschool where we provide opportunities to strengthen and develop existing prime area skills and extend children’s learning.
Age 3-4

Preschool works to support the children in all 7 areas of the EYFS. We provide opportunities to strengthen and develop existing prime area skills but also extend their learning into the specific areas too.

Communication and Language

In Preschool we encourage conversations throughout the day, we observe them as they have their own conversations with peers throughout the day, but we also provide opportunities to extend their language skills further. This development takes place during group time where the children will be introduced to new language or language will be solidified during this time as children will use their listening skills and have the opportunity to share and express their ideas using complex sentences.

Physical Development

We continue to support the development of fine motor skills. Our room is equipped with resources to provide extensive opportunities for children to strengthen the muscles in the hand, this creates a great foundation for pencil control in Reception.

Literacy

We provide lots of opportunity for children to learn in this specific area. We have a reading area dedicated to books, songs, and rhymes which the children can access throughout the day. Children begin to learn about stories in more detail e.g. The print, how to turn pages and handle books, how stories are structured. Children begin to enjoy a larger range of stories. They will have their favourites and be able to recall key events, characters. We also encourage the children to use their language skills to question what may happen next etc. By being exposed to a bigger range of illustrations it supports children in their ability to mark make as they begin to pay attention to details, and this can be seen through drawing or painting.

To support self-registration children become familiar with name recognition and can recognise letters of significance providing a great starting point for pre reading and writing skills.

Mathematics

Through verbal speech “what can you see in this group?” or noticing numerical print. Using mathematical language throughout the day and exposing them to mathematical problems in our daily routine such as setting the table for meal times will support children while also providing them with the opportunity to ask questions.

We help build a foundation for number problems through introducing the subitising technique allowing children to gain the understanding for number bonds.

Understanding the World

Pre-schoolers are known for their amazing imagination. We utilise this imagination in our home corner where children can take on various roles in their play. We explore various roles that the children may be exposed to on a regular basis whether it be in the community or occupations they are familiar with due to parents professions. We also celebrate various holidays throughout the year such as birthdays, bonfire night and other special cultural events of personal significance to Preschool.

This provides children with a sense of belonging but also allows the children to develop an understanding of diversity within our community.

Expressive arts and design

Children also use their imagination in this area of learning too. Preschool provide children the children with opportunities to be creative in many ways so they are able to develop a preference on how they like to express themselves. We explore colour, texture, and different techniques whether this be with paint printing or playing musical instruments.

Through encouragement children are confident to express themselves in a variety of ways whether this be dressing up, music or mark making.
